On the way to school this morning I was explaining to Dylan (3-years-old) the concept of “last night”…

Me: “You know how when the sun comes up and we wake up, it’s called today?”
Dylan: “Yep.”
Me: “And what is it called before the sun goes down and we went to bed?”
Dylan: “Yesterday.”
Me: “Okay, so here is a new one. When it’s dark, it’s called night time. And night time yesterday is called LAST NIGHT. Cool, right?”
Dylan: “Whoa, stop stop stop. I don’t know what in the world you’re talking about. Don’t tell me these things.”

I really never thought about the complexities of things that as adults we think are simple until I had children.
